It was a tough loss for the Klein Oak Freshman gold team as they turned the ball over 4 times and North Shore converting 14 points off those turnovers. Austin Hennessey supplied a spark on kick return by running one back for the first touchdown of the game and several others that put Oak’s offense in good field position. Lee Daily supplied some excitement by picking off the North Shore quarterback and giving Oak good field position but the offense could not capitalize. As the first half was winding down, Mateo Omelanczuk and Jacob Harper tried to get things going with 2 great pass plays for about 50 yard but Oak was once again plagued by turnovers, this one happening at the goal line. Oak went into half time on a good defensive stand and down 26-6.
The second half started out with a bang for Oak as the defense stopped a 4th down attempt from North Shore with good tackles from Sean Brown. The Oak offense then came out and took advantage with a recovery of their own fumble, hard running by Jose Perez and then a 2 yard punch in by Jacob Harper. This cut the North Shore lead in half with Oak trailing 26-13 with 3:30 left in the third.
Unfortunately Oak could not muster anymore scores and North Shore closed the 3rd quarter with a score and posted 14 more points in the 4th to come away with a victory 48-13.
Freshman Gold now has an off week before starting up their district play at Klein Collins on September 22 at 4:30.
