The Klein Oak Freshman Black team puts up 32 points against the Dekaney Wildcats 14 for a great win.
The Oak Freshman black team got off to a shaky start. After what was thought to be a great Blankenship to Shantz pass that would setup a first and goal to open the game, it was brought back due to a penalty and subsequently a turnover on downs. Dekaney took advantage on their drive and marched it right down for a touchdown and a 2 point conversion to put them up 8-0, which is where it stood at the end of the 1st quarter.
The Oak defense came on strong to start the 2nd quarter with Frank Romero getting a big sack and forcing the Wildcats to punt it away. Oak started putting together some momentum in this 2nd quarter with a Blankenship to Shantz touchdown pass and with a Ripley extra point, pulled the Panthers to within one, 8-7. Ripley’s kickoff pinned the Wildcats back at their own 5 but on their first play from scrimmage, they ran in a 95 yard touchdown. The 2 point conversion was no good and Dekaney took the lead back for the last time at 14-7.
Oak would go into halftime with some great defense and 2 more scores. Starting from their own 19 yard line with just over 6 minutes until the half, Blankenship hit Derrick Durden for a good gain and Lance McClendon ran off a good 20 yard run. Blankenship hooked up with Shantz for a second time for a touchdown and with a missed extra point; the Panthers trailed the Wildcats 14-13. Defense held well with tackles from Dorian Mostyn and Zach Gonzales that forced Dekaney to punt it away. The Oak offense took the field and picked up right where they left off with a great scoring drive that included passes from Blankenship to Shantz and a touchdown pass to Brown. The 2 point conversion was not good but Oak took the lead they would never give up at 19-14. The Oak defense ended the 3rd quarter with great back to back tackles from Robert Trantham.
The 3rd quarter was scoreless as both teams made some good yardage but with no reward.
The 4th quarter proved fruitful for the Panthers as they would add 2 more touchdowns and defensive stands that would not let Dekaney get anything going. Another good pass from Blankenship to Shantz would setup a 1st and goal at the 5 where Blankenship would find Brown for a second touchdown pass of the game to the corner of the end zone. With Ripley splitting the uprights, Oak stayed ahead 26-14. Oak’s last scoring drive came with over 6 minutes to play in the game. Cameron Gassaway makes a good gain with a great catch while Jeff Norales added some good runs up the middle. Blankenship would eventually score on a quarterback keeper with just over a minute and a half left in the game. With the extra point no good and Oak’s stifling defense, Oak would come out victorious with a 32-14 win.
Next up for Klein Oak Freshman Black team is at Westfield on Thursday, 10/13 at 6:30.
