David Smith

Head Football Coach / Athletic Director

Coach Smith coached four years at Northern Illinois University for Charlie Sadler.  He coached three years at the University of Oklahoma for Barry Switzer and Gary Gibbs, and nine years in Baytown at Baytown Lee High School. Lettered in football and track at Richardson High School. David also lettered in football and track at, and has a Bachelor of Science Degree from Sam Houston State University. He has a Masters Degree from Stephen F. Austin in Mid-Management. He has thirty two years experience with sixteen years at Klein Oak. David and his wife Patti have two daughters, Austin 16 and Kennedy 12.

Jeff Poth

Assistant Head Coach / Offensive Coordinator / Offensive Line

Coach Poth has a Bachelor of Science Degree from Texas A & I University.  Jeff is certified to teach Math, Health and Physical Education. He coached at Pasadena ISD for ten years.  This is his twelveth year coaching at Klein Oak.  Jeff and his wife, Amy, have two children, Barrett 15 and Benjamin 12.

Kevin Pettigrew

Defensive Coordinator / Inside Linebackers

Coach Pettigrew has a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of Houston. Kevin is certified to teach Physical Education and has a Composite certification in Social Studies. He coached for 21 years with his last 9 in Klein ISD. This is Kevin’s fourthyear at Klein Oak.  Prior to coming to Klein Oak, he was an assistant varsity football coach and head boys track coach at Klein Collins. Coach Pettigrew is happily married to Mary for the last 24 years. They have two children, Christy 30, Courtland 13, one grandson Jake and a grandaughter on the way.

James Clancy

Co-Offensive Coordinator / Athletic Department Head / Quarterbacks

Coach Clancy received his Bachelor's of Science Degree from Oklahoma State University in Education with a minor in History.  He earned his Master's Degree in Education Administration from Lamar University.  He played at the University of Tulsa where he was a member of the 2003 Humanitarian Bowl Team and at Oklahoma State University as a member of the 2004 Alamo Bowl Team.  He was an Offensive Staff Assistant at Oklahoma State before coming to Klein Oak.  He teaches World Geography. His wife's name is Alison who teaches Chemistry at Klein Oak. They are expecting their first child: Chloe Anne, during this year during Klein week!  This is his 5th season at Klein Oak. 

Rodney Fuhrmann

Co-Defensive Coordinator / Defensive Backs

Coach Fuhrmann is a graduate of Montgomery High School and Sam Houston State University. He has thirteen years coaching experience. He coaches the defensive backs and strength and conditioning. He teaches IPC science for the special education department. After starting his coaching career in New Orleans, LA, at John Curtis High School, he has spent the last six years back home in Texas. He is married to Kim and has two children, Rylee Elizebeth and Trey.

Claude Brumfield

Defensive Line

Coach Brumfield has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Northeast Louisiana University, where he played on the 1987 I-AA National Championship team before becoming a football graduate assistant. He has a Masters of Arts in Educational Leadership from Xavier University in New Orleans, LA. Claude is certified to teach Composite Social Studies and Physical Education. He coached at Beaumont Central and Sam Houston High schools here in Texas, and has coached for serveral high schools in Louisiana. This is his fifth year at Klein Oak. Claude and his wife Demetria live in the Humble area.

Ken Vale

Running Backs, H Backs and Tight Ends

Coach Vale received his teaching certificate and graduated from the University of Houston.  He played his college football at Indiana State University.  This is Coach Vale’s fourth year at Klein Oak where he teaches World History. He had coached the previous sixteen years at Aldine Sr. H.S. under Head Coach Bill Smith. Ken and his wife Lise have two sons - Tim, a junior at the University of Houston and Iain, a junior on the Klein Oak football team.

Andres Gomez

Corner Backs

Coach Gomez has been coaching high school football for seven years in Houston, Tomball and Aldine ISD. He is a graduate of Texas A&M University, where he was a member of the Corps of Cadets, Company E-2. He graduated from Katy high school and played on the 1997 Division I 5A State Championship team. He and his wife Katie have been married for over a year and have a dog named Rozlyn.

Ryland Bailey

Ryland Bailey is starting his 14th season as a high school football coach. He will be teaching World Geography at Klein Oak. He is married to Sharon and they have a three year old daughter named Graye and a new born son named Ryder.

Royce Kennedy

Freshman Team

Coach Kennedy has a Bachelors Degree and Master of Education Degree from Stephen F. Austin. Royce is certified to teach Business, Health, and Physical Education. This is his nineth year coaching, with this being his seventh at Klein Oak. He and his wife Heather have two children, Bryce 10 and Taylor 16.

John Penn

Freshman Team

Coach Penn has a Bachelor of Science Degree from St Edwards University. He has a Composite in Social Studies and teaches Psychology and AP Psychology. John has 22 years coaching experience. This is his thirteenth year at Klein Oak. John and his wife, Paula, who works at Hildebrandt, have two children. His son Jared, attend Florida State University. His daughter Courtney, graduated from Klein Oak in 2010 and attends Stephen F. Austin State University.

Bo Hernandez

Freshman Team

Coach Hernandez has a Bachelors Degree in Kinesiology from the University of Houston. He is certified to teach Special Education, Health and Physical Education. Bo is in his thirteenth year of coaching and his nineth year at Klein Oak. Prior to coaching at Klein Oak, coach Hernandez coached at Conroe High School. Bo is married to Dayna and is step-father to Tony and Tyler.

Chris Srubar

Co-Head Athletic Trainer

Chris Srubar received his Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science with a minor in Athletic Training from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. This is his fourth year at Klein Oak High School as the Co-Head Athletic Trainer. He also teaches Sports Medicine II. Before coming to Klein Oak, he was the Athletic Trainer at Victoria Memorial High School in Victoria, TX for three years. In addition to his Athletic Training Certification and Licensing, he is also a certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist.

Lisa Oliver

Athletic Trainer

Lisa Oliver received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in German and Biology and a Master’s of Science in Education, majoring in Physical Education and Wellness Promotion from Baylor University. She taught science for three years at Lake Air Jr. High in Waco, and coached the Baylor Women’s Soccer Club. She worked as an athletic trainer at Wichita Falls High School for 10 years. This is her thirteenth year at Klein Oak. She is also licensed and certified in athletic training, and has taught many different subjects over the years.
