Klein Oak Panthers vs Tomball Cougars October 8, 2009
Klein Oak Panthers shut out the Tomball Cougars 20-0.
Oak received the ball on the 30 yard line to start the game. Quarterback Austin Schoech lead a 70 yard drive that included a 8 yard run by Rock Stevens, a 22 yard run by Olumide Oderinde and capped off with a 35 yard pass to Andrew Bailey that put Oak on the Cougar 7 yard line. Rock Stevens carried the ball for a touch down and Kwame Kuffor nailed the extra point for a 7-0 Panther lead.
Tomball took the kick-off to their 45 yard line but quickly punted after failing to make a 1st down. Oak also had to punt on their next possession but quickly got the ball back when Louis Avelino intercepted a pass and ran it back to the Tomball 26 yard line. A 3 yard Quarterback option and 6 yard run by Zachary Gebhart put the Panthers on the 17 yard line just shy of the 1st down. Oak went for it on 4th down and 1, but the Panthers came up inches short after a measure by the referee. Tomball took over on downs at the 17 yard line deep in their own territory.
The Oak Defense held behind a tackle for a loss by Richard Ybarra. This brought up 3rd down and 10 at the Tomball 17 yard line. A short punt and a Klein Oak bounce resulted in the Panthers taking over at the Cougar 25 yard line. A 10 yard pass by Schoech to Bailey made it 1st down and 10 at the Tomball 15 yard line. After failing to convert another 1st down the Panther’s Kwame Kuffor attempted a 25 yard field goal that just missed. Tomball would again take over deep in their own territory. A blocked pass by Antonio Salgardo on 3rd and 9 forced another Tomball punt. This punt was better than the last and Klein Oak took possession at their 45 yard line.
The Panther offense behind the line of Philip Castor, Tanner Choppy, John Dice, Thomas Seltz and Dwayne Paul moved the ball into Tomball territory with the help of a 4th down and 1 yard conversion by Gabriel Limon and a long reception by receiver Randy Garcia to the Tomball 13 yard line. However, after some unfortunate penalties the drive stalled and Tomball took over on downs to end the 1st half. The score remained 7-0 Oak.
Tomball received the kick-off to start the 2nd half. After a tackle by Demetrius Burgess brought up 3rd down and 14, Tomball had to punt from their 18 yard line. Samuel Veta blocked the punt and Oak recovered at the 19 yard line. After two running plays brought up 3rd down and 5 at the 14 yard line, a heart stopping option by QB Schoech to Gabriel Limon looked like a busted play for sure. However, Limon held on and broke three tackles for a score. The extra point put Oak ahead 14-0.
Tomball continued to struggle on their next three possessions and were unable to advance the ball much past the 50 yard line. After taking over on downs near the 50 yard line to start the 4th Quarter, a 27 yard pass reception by Kwame Kuffor put Oak on the 23 yard line of Tomball. This was followed by an 8 yard carry by Rock Stevens to the 15 yard line and a 7 yard carry by Gabriel Limon to the 8 yard line. Two incomplete passes and a tackle for a loss put Oak in a 4th down and goal situation from the 15 yard line and it looked like Oak was going to come away empty handed. However, Aaron Schoech threw a 15 yard touchdown to Aaron Reyes. Oak was not able to convert the extra point, and the Panthers now led 20-0. The Panther Defense made sure this is where the score stayed and time expired on Tomball with the shutout complete.
