Klein Oak Panthers vs Klein Forest Eagles
September 23, 2009

On a day of overcast skies, cool weather, and a misty rain, the Klein Oak Panthers engaged in a defensive battle with the Klein Forest Golden Eagles that ended in a 0-0 tie.

The Golden Eagles opened strong with a 23 yard run and 30 yard run that put them inside the Panther 20 yard line threatening a touch down.   However, the Panther’s Darrius Callicutt intercepted a Golden Eagle pass at the 5 yard line that put an end to the drive.  This was the first of several Klein Oak defensive stands (five of which were inside the “Red Zone”) that denied Klein Forest a touch down.

Klein Oak then took possession of the ball at the 5 yard line and proceeded to drive the ball down field behind the offensive line of Philip Castor, Adam List, John Dice, Tanner Choppy and Thomas Seltz.  The drive was capped with a 12 yard run by Andrew Medina, and two 10-yard runs, a 5-yard run, and a 25-yard run by QB Aaron Reyes. An impressive 30-yard run by Rock Stevens was called back due to an Oak penalty.  The drive owed much of its success to exceptional blocking by Andrew Bailey and Kwame Kuffer.  Oak eventually moved the ball to the Forest 25 yard line.  Unfortunately, after eating 6 minutes off the clock, the Oak drive was stalled by the first of several Klein Forest defensive stands and the ball was turned over on downs.

The Panther defense took over, stalling the Golden Eagle offense, with exceptional plays by Georgi Zdravkofv (sack), Derrick Downing and Warren Webster (tackle for a loss) and Cody Spiegehaus and Brodrick Lacy (open field tackles).  The first half ended at a 0-0 tie.

The Golden Eagles opened the 2nd half with a long kick-off return to the Panther 45 yard line.  Once again, the Klein Oak defense went to work behind the defensive line play of Georgi Zdravkofv, Antonio Salgado, Derrick Downing, Tony Williams, and Brodrick Lacy. Although the Klein Forest offense managed to advance the ball deep Klein Oak Territory, an excellent effort on pass coverage by Oak’s #2 (no name on roster) prevented a Forest touchdown.  The ball was turned over on downs at the Oak 38 yard line.

From this point forward it became a back and forth see-saw with both teams struggling offensively.  The game had its exciting moments with outstanding running plays by Blake Ashford (11 yards), Aaron Reyes (17 and 12 yards) and a 30 yard pass play to Andrew Bailey (brought back on a holding penalty).  There were also some great defensive tackling and special team plays by Tony Scott, Louis Avelino, Broderick Lacy, Cody Spiegehaus, Louis Urea, William Thomson, Justin Scarpetta, Andrew Medina, Warren Webster, Darrius Callicutt, Antonio Salgado, and Gabriel Limon.

Time expired, and this game ended the way it started.  Klein Oak 0 – Klein Forest 0.
