Klein Oak Panthers vs Dekaney Wildcats November 4, 2009
Klein Oak Panthers Defeat Dekaney Wildcats in Exciting Last Second Finish.
The Panthers final game of the season ended with a victory over Dekaney with 17 seconds left on the clock. The first half of the game was rather uneventful with neither team scoring and the game tied 0-0. The Panthers and Wildcats continued to struggle offensively in the 3rd quarter. The Oak passing game was not there as it had been in previous games with many attempts falling incomplete including a 4th down and 1 attempt that turned the ball over to Dekaney on the Panther 25 yard line. Dekaney was quick to take advantage of this good field position and on the very next play found a hole in the right side of the defense and ran the ball 25 yards down the side line for a score and a 6-0 lead.
Time was running out in the 4th quarter and Klein Oak had yet to score. The defense held forcing a punt that gave the Panthers the ball on their 14 yard line. With just over two minutes left on the clock Oak had one more chance and a long 86 yards to go in order to tie the game. With the passing game not working Oak decided to keep the ball on the ground. The offensive line knew what was at stake and provided excellent blocking for running back Gabriel Limon who ran the ball with carries of 10 yards, 8 yards and 15 yards that set Oak up at the Dekaney 48 yard line. Oak had to use their time-outs to stop the clock with just over a minute left in the game. A 5 yard run by Rock Stevens followed by a 3 yard run and 15 yard run by Limon set Oak up at the Dekaney 25 yard line with under a minute left. A failed option and a short run brought up 3rd down and 8 at the 23 yard line. With very little time left Oak had two chances to throw the ball into the end zone. The first attempt by QB Austin Schoech fell incomplete. Now with 4th and 8 Oak had time for one more play to tie the game. Schoech lined up in the shot gun and looked down field for an open receiver. He found Andrew Medina in the end zone and completed a pass that tied the game 6-6 with 17 seconds left on the clock.
It was now up to the kicking team to score the go ahead extra point. A penalty moved Oak back 10 yards making the kick even longer. A high snap was snatched out of the air by holder Zachary Gebhart. Gebhart managed to get the ball down and Kwame Kuffor nailed the extra point to win the game for Oak 7-6.
