Klein Oak Panthers vs Dekaney Wildcats November 4, 2009
JV Black Dominates Dekaney, 40 – 6
It was all giggles and grins at Dekaney Wildcats field for the season finale of the 2009 Klein Oak Panther JV Black team. The offense drove the ball on the ground and in the air, the defense stuffed the Wildcats time after time and the boys entertained the family entourages gathered on a cool, clear November evening in the impressive win, 40 – 6.
The defense opened up the game with an impressive fourth down stuff of the Wildcat offense, Drew Latham, Jay Andrews and Brandon Vongsengdeuane anchoring the defensive line, Peter Crews playing well until he was injured. The dozen members of the Connor McQueen entourage were thrilled with the fine passing by QB Connor to WR Tuff McClain and TE Nicholas Bradley. Jeffery Dalton, Alex Sisson, Dakota Thompson, Aaron Mitchell formed the wall to protect QB Connor on the fine TD pass to Nicholas, Panthers up 6 – 0. The Wildcats watched and learned with their own passing game to tie the game within a minute or so, 6 -6. No matter, Connor’s Grandpa, a retired Texas coaching legend, sent telepathic instructions to his Grandson who hit the streaking James Dorris on a nice 10 yard slant pass. Dorris heard his sisters screaming and ran like they were chasing him out of their room for the 65 yard TD score, Oak 12 – 6 to end the quarter.
Palmer Currie delivered the slobber knocker hit of the evening and forced the Wildcat punt. The Dekaney punter/QB/safety hit the nice punt down to the 6 yard line. Coaches love long drives and the Panthers were eager to please. The Nicholas Bradley entourage, arriving fashionable on time, were thrilled to see the nice grab over the middle and more thrilled to learn that young Nick already had his name in the game summary and they agreed that he would be awarded dinner. James Dorris snagged a pass out of the air for another great gain. In between the Coaches gave DJ Scott a nice workout asking him to run numerous go-routes, pass attempts of 40 yards or more. After the receivers did most of the work, the Khaleeq Little entourage, numbering in the hundreds, got to cheer the touchdown by #21 to complete the 94 yard drive, Oak 20 – 6. The D-line scared the Wildcat QB into a hurried pass and Xavier Doyle made the interception at mid-field. The Little entourage, big enough to start their own stadium wave, really enjoyed watching Khaleeq run left, run right and up the middle to move the ball near the goalline. After Khaleeq did a lot of work, Connor took it into the endzone for the 28 – 6 halftime lead.
The third quarter opened with Dillon May, Cody Speigelhauer and Javaughn Baltrip making a great play to defend a long Wildcat pass. More defense followed the D-Line stuffing Dekaney on fourth down. After several penalties, the Oak offense handed the ball to Alfred Baratti and he made a bee line for the goal line 65 yards away, 34 – 6. The Baratti clan, earning a special award for the most hours at football stadiums, wore smiles after the sprint. Eric Sanchez, playing O-line and D-line also earned a grin from his Dad with his blocking this evening. Again the defense held when Ryan Emerson made the tackle for loss on a fourth down, Dad agreeing that he would be granted dinner for the effort.
The fourth quarter had a lot of good Oak defense. Keearies Hawkins and Darius Butler had some fun, Joshua Redkey and William Hoffmans had more fun and Cody Steele and Brycen Turner even more fun playing great defense. Matthew Garland joined in the grinning with an interception. The Little entourage burst into song when Khaleeq ran 65 yards for the final touchdown of the year, 40 – 6. Samuel Porter ended the year with back to back TFLs, his Dad declaring that he could have anything he wanted off the McDonald’s Dollar Menu for his effort. Alex Sisson, #77, earned the final yards of the year on his rumble up the middle to end the game.
The JV Black ended the season on a high note. The offense was moving the ball like an efficient machine, the defense was stout and the entire roster got on the field to play. The loyal followers of the squad were thrilled with the play and the spirit. After all, the sub-varsity, Freshmen teams, the JV teams, are the spirit of Oak football. While the Varsity brethren are getting the glory of Friday Night Lights, the sub-varsity players are working hard and often playing for the sheer joy of the game. The spectators, parents, siblings, grandparents and friends gather and are always thrilled at watching the kids work hard and more thrilled to see the satisfaction and dirty grimy smiles on the face of the kids after a great block or a hard tackle. The future is bright for Klein Oak football.
